Saint Barnabas Angels

November 28 was Giving Tuesday, and here at Heidi Daus HQ, we celebrated it in a big way. We decided to donate 20% of sale proceeds from heididaus.com to the Saint Barnabas NICU unit. Heidi and her family wanted to deliver that check personally to the team who took care of her son Shane. It was a truly touching reunion.

Heidi’s son Shane, now a tall and vivacious 12 year old, was born as a premature infant on January 12, 2005 2lbs and 4 ounces. The doctors told Heidi and her husband Mitch, that there was a 15% chance he would survive.

Because of the incredible care Shane received from the doctors at Saint Barnabas, Dr. Kamtorn Vangvanichyakorn and Dr. Maria Sanchez-Konel to name a few, Heidi and her husband Mitch felt comforted during this hard time. Heidi and Mitch donated regularly to the Saint Barnabas NICU since and last week Heidi and her family paid a visit to the hospital to bring Shane back and bring a check from Giving Tuesday. To say the NICU staff was happy to see Shane would be an understatement.

The doctors greeted Heidi at the front entrance and had a warm embrace. They were delighted to see how tall and big Shane was. The hospital president and the NICU staff took Heidi and her family on a tour of their newly renovated NICU. Started by Dr. Kamtorn and Dr. So H Ko, it was their goal to build the best NICU in the country, and it looks like they accomplished that goal.

Their goal was to build the best NICU unit in the country, and from the tour that Heidi and her family received, it certainly seemed like they accomplished their goal.

Heidi and Mitch made a donation to the hospital after Shane was born and got a moon to show their gratitude for the incredible care he received.

Heidi, Mitch and Shane are so grateful to the staff at Saint Barnabas Hospital for the incredible care Shane received. During this season, Heidi hopes that all families that go through hard times like these can have access to the proper care. That is why Heidi donates regularly to hospitals around the country so she can try to make a difference in the lives of other families.
